Summary of Bill SB07-077

All Students Who Have Not Received Their Driving Permit Are Now Under This Mandate as of April 23, 2007

As of April 23, 2007, Colorado has made the following changes in the state's Driver Education Program for the State of Colorado:
  1. A student may start the 30 hour classroom portion of drivers education at age 14 years 6 months in our (MDS) state approved course.
  2. When the student has completed the 30 hours of classroom approved course and is 15 years old, he or she will be given a completion affidavit to apply for the driver's permit by the approved organization.
  3. The driver's permit must be held for one year, and the parent and/or guardian must document 50 hours of driving on the log sheets provided by Colorado Driver's Manual. (40 hours day driving and 10 hours night driving)
  4. To complete the requirements for a driver's license, all students under the age of 18 must complete 6 hours behind-the-wheel training by an approved driver education organization.
